This Emancipation Statue was sculpted by Mr Karl Broodhagen who used Bussa a rebel slave, proudly breaking his chains of oppression to represent the pride felt to break away from slavery.
On the base of the statue there are extracts from a poem written by Barbadian poet Kamau Brathwaite and a Barbadian emancipation folk song.
The Emancipation Statue can be seen at the Haggatt Hall roundabout in St Michael.
