Ismay’s Bar & Restaurant, you will experience the true rum shop culture of Barbados, while still enjoying basic bar mixes and great bajan food, all at the best rum shop prices.
As one of the more popular watering holes for locals in
Bridgetown, Ismay’s Bar boast genuine Bajan hospitality and friendly patrons who are always ready to strike up a conversation with tourist and new visitors to the establishment.
Although not a traditional rum shop in architecture, and is not attached the owner’s house, Ismay’s rum shop does feature most of the other attributes of a rum shop.
Drinks…A variety of sodas/soft drinks and alcoholic beverages are on sale, with rum and other liquor sold by the bottle or by shots, with a chaser of choice and some ice. Rum, gin and vodka mixes are also available …no cocktail mixes.
Food…The delicious menu of local food is prepared traditionally by Ismay Singh the proprietor and her partner Trevor Eddey. Cigarettes and snacks are among the other items sold.
Homemade delicacies like fish cakes are prepared by Ismay, while local pastries like turn-overs are made at neighborhood bakeries.
Atmosphere…On any given day you can find a patron entertaining others in the bar with his or her humor. There is also the occasional friendly game of
Dominoes or
cards for those who want to partake.
Ballroom dancing is usually the preference for patrons.
Ismay’s is the perfect
Lunch stop for those working in Bridgetown and for tourist/cruise visitors after a
self-guided Bridgetown tour. This is also a nice watering–hole for
After-work Limes.
Entertainment…At Ismay’s Bar you can enjoy some dancing on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, usually from around 7pm.
“Karaoke Nights” are held on the last Saturday of every month.
