River Bay in Barbados is a small secluded bay with a small freshwater river from which it got its name, and is known for its majestic cliff-top views of the Atlantic Ocean crashing along the northern coastline.
On weekends and public holidays, River Bay is the hype of activity with locals from all over the island, who use this area as their favourite picnic spot.
During the week it is less lively, with the occasional visit from tourist doing the island tour circuit.
The river at River Bay is fairly safe for swimming as long as you are careful and do not swim too far out to sea where there are strong undercurrents and lots of undertow.
River Bay is an archeological site of the Arawaks and can be found on the
North-east Coast of Barbados in the parish of St Lucy.
