arbados has a rich culture and heritage which can be seen in the island's cuisine, architecture, in the indigenous musical art forms and above all the festivals. A visit to the Barbados Museum's various Galleries and Exhibits will show how our history has shaped the culture of the Barbadian people.

The island offers an interesting variety of cultural and historic attractions so a sightseeing trip is highly recommended. With an impressive collection of old great houses, some of which date back to as early as the 17th century, you'll get a glimpse of the island's architectural history. Old churches, monuments and caves are but a few of the many places of interest to see on Barbados.

If you are interested in art and craft then Barbados is home to many talented artists including potters, sculptors and painters. You will also find mahogany craft, shell jewellery, batik, dolls, straw bags, placemats and much more. The selection of fine quality art and craft is endless. There are many Art Galleries located around the island where you can purchase your piece of 'Barbados.' In historic Bridgetown you'll find the Pelican Craft centre which is the largest shopping complex on the island dedicated to the finest local craftwork. Souvenirs can also be purchased from many of the shops and department stores within Bridgetown and the coasts.

Music is a huge part of the culture of Barbados. Over the years the island has produced some fine musicians some of whom have crossed over into the international arena. Spouge and Tuk are indigenous to Barbados although calypso, which is more Caribbean music, is dominant especially around the Crop Over Season.

Barbadians enjoy a wide range of local delicacies. Local restaurants, rum-shops and even road side vendors all carry a mouth watering array of bajan foods.

As you discover this paradise you'll find there's much to do in this charming and culturally vibrant island.
