Like other countries, Mothers Day on this Caribbean island is used to honour motherhood and appreciate maternal bonds. Although not a national holiday in Barbados, it is one of the most celebrated days on the island.
Every year Mother’s Day is recognised on the second Sunday in May, and celebrated through local traditions like card-giving, gift-giving, church-going, family lunches and dinners, as well as Sunday picnics at various parks, beaches and picnic spots across the island. Bus excursions & island tours with the family are also a popular choice with moms.
In recent years, young mothers and moms young at heart can be found enjoying lunch cruises, submarine tours and sunset dinner cruises, which can sometimes feature special activities or entertainment for that special day.
Being pampered is an important part of Mothers Day, and what better way to pamper your mom than with a voucher for a beauty treatment or a day at the spa. This option is especially popular with mothers and daughters.
